Gandhinagar: Mr.Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and Textiles announced results of the third edition of ‘States’ Startup Ranking 2021’ in New Delhi.

Gujarat has retained its position in the top category of ‘Best Performing’ for third time in a row in the evaluation of all states and union territories. 28 States and 8 Union Territories participated in the event. The Union Minister handed over this award to Mr. S.J. Haider, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Dr. Rahul Gupta, IAS, Industries Commissioner and the nodal officer of Startup Gujarat Cell.

Chief Minister Mr. Bhupendra Patel said, “Gujarat government is working with full commitment towards fulfilling the resolve of Atmanirbhar Bharat of the Prime Minister. Startups have the potential to give a new height and dimension to the economy of any country. In future, these startups will play a very important role in making Atmanirbhar Bharat. Startups in India are accelerating towards rapid growth in the last five years. Our government is working to provide all possible help and support to the startups of Gujarat. For the third time in a row, we have received this award. I congratulate the entire team of Gujarat.”

Gujarat has 14,200+ (6.70%) registered startups. According to Startup India website, there are 14,200+ (6.70%) registered startups in Gujarat. A vast network of 180+ incubators/academic institutions from Gujarat are currently supporting startups in Gujarat. Due to these initiatives, Gujarat has also bagged the ‘Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2017’ in the successful implementation of the Start-up India programme.

This report is based on 7 broad reform areas.

The 2021 rankings conducted by DPIIT along with Startup India were based on 7 broad reform areas consisting of 26 action points which are essential in providing regulatory, policy and economic support to startups and stakeholders of the ecosystem. The reform areas included Institutional Support, Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Access to Market, Incubation support, Funding Support, Mentorship Support and Capacity Building of Enablers.

Along with the rankings, the government also released the national report of rankings for all participants, as well as specific State and UT reports, highlighting the overall structure of the exercise including framework and methodology, evaluation process and outcomes.

Gujarat’s initiatives which got considered as “best practices” by GOI

Initiatives taken by the Government of Gujarat to get 150+ government officials involved in startups, 100% training from all state supported incubators, sensitizing 300+ potential private investors to invest in startups 2 Funds – Student Innovation Fund and GVFL Startup Fund, setup to provide funding support to Startups and 160+ Startups backed with financial assistance have been recognized as ‘Best Practices’ by the Central Government.

State Startup Ranking Framework was launched by DPIIT in 2018

With an aim to build capacity at the state level to support innovation and entrepreneurship and strengthen the ecosystem in the states, DPIIT launched the State Startup Ranking Framework in 2018.

Prime Minister of India launched the ‘Startup India’ initiative on January 16, 2016, with an aim to build a strong startup and entrepreneurial ecosystem, promote sustainable economic growth and generate massive employment opportunities.
