2 Expressway and 3 Economic corridors of 937 km being developed in Gujarat

Gandhinagar: In connection to the visit of Union minister for Roads and Transport Nitin Gadkari in Gujarat, the ministry has shared the details of   27 Greenfield Expressways and Access-Controlled corridors of length 10,000 kms at a total cost of Rs. 4.5 Lakh Crores it is constructing in India which are going to pass through Gujarat. This will improve connectivity and bring economic prosperity to the nation. Presented below is the note in full text.

Out of 10,000 Kms of Access-Controlled Highways in the first phase of Bharatmala; 6,138 Kms of length has been awarded at a total capital cost of INR 2.78 lakh crores.

The remaining projects are targeted to be awarded by FY23-24

  • Out of these 27 Greenfield corridors; 2 Expressway and 3 Economic corridors with length 937 km and total capital cost of Rs. 50,900 Cr. are being developed in the state of Gujarat.

  • This is a 1,386 km long 8-lane expressway, which is being developed with a total capital of Rs. 101,420 Cr.
  • Out of 1386 km, 423 km is in the state of Gujarat and the entire length of this section has been awarded.
  • Out of the 423 km, Construction has been initiated for 361 Km length while the construction on the remaining length of 62 km is targeted to be initiated by Feb’23.
  • Optimized alignment will reduce distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 12%, from current distance of 1,420 km to 1,240 km
  • It is designed for 120 KMPH speed and will reduce travel time from 24 hrs to 12 hrs
  • The corridor is planned to be opened section-wise to public traffic till Dec’24.
  • MP/ Gujarat Border – Vadodara (170 Km – Gujarat) – Mar’24
  • Vadodara – Ankleshwar (100 Km – Gujarat) – Mar’23
  • Ankleshwar – Mumbai (228 Km – Gujarat & Maharashtra) – Dec’24
  • The corridor will provide connectivity to major economic centers within Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra
  • In Gujarat, the corridor passes through the districts of Dahod, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari and Valsad providing high-speed connectivity to 6 SEZs, 10 Pharma and Medical Clusters, 2 Textile Clusters, 7 Fishing & Seafood Clusters and 2 Mega Food Parks.
  • 15+ interchanges will be provided in the Gujarat section to improve last-mile connectivity to towns along the expressway through existing highway network

 

 

2.               Ahmedabad – Dholera Expressway

  • The 109 km long corridor is being developed at a total capital cost of Rs. ~4,200 Cr to connect Ahmedabad and Dholera and will act as an integral artery to connect Dholera Special Investment Region with Ahmedabad
  • Entire length of 109 km has been awarded and construction has been initiated
  • The corridor will enable high speed travel between Ahmedabad and Dholera and will reduce the travel time to about 1 hour (from 2.25 hours currently)
  • This corridor will also provide direct connectivity to the airport at Dholera
  • The corridor connecting Sardar Patel Ring Road near Sarkhej and Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) via Dholera International Airport at Navagam is targeted to be completed and open to public traffic by FY24-25.

 

Amritsar – Bhatinda – Jamnagar Access Controlled Corridor

  • Amritsar – Bhatinda – Jamnagar Corridor is a 6-lane fully access-controlled corridor with a total length of 917 km being developed at a total capital cost of Rs. ~22,750 Cr.
  • As on date, entire length of 917 km has been awarded and construction has been initiated for 762 km length and 631 km length has been completed
  • Out of the 917 km, 125 km length is in Gujarat and the complete section is under construction. Out of the 125 km, 94 km has been constructed with entire Gujarat section expected to be opened to public traffic by Nov’23.
  • The corridor will reduce the travel distance from Amritsar to Jamnagar by 200 km and travel time from 23 hours to 12 hours while connecting important economic centers like of Amritsar, Firozpur, Bhatinda, Sirsa, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalor, Banas Kantha, Radhanpur, Kutch, Morbi and Jamnagar across the states of Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
  • Further, it provides high-speed to connectivity to 15 districts, 11 NMP nodes, 2 social nodes and 2 MMLPs boosting economic activities in the region. Out of this, 5 districts, 8 economic nodes and 1 social node is in the state of Gujarat.
  • The corridor which will usher in economic prosperity to emerging economic regions in Northern and Western India by providing high speed connectivity with ports in ssignificantly reducing the transit time and logistics cost to fuel India’s competitiveness in the global export marketplace

 

 

 

 

3.               Sanchore – Deesa – Mehsana – Ahmedabad Corridor

  • The 6-lane 212 km long access-controlled corridor is being developed with a total capital cost of Rs. 7,790 Cr.
  • It connects Amritsar – Bhatinda – Jamnagar Corridor with Delhi – Mumbai Expressway though Ahmedabad – Vadodara Expressway providing high -speed connectivity between Rajasthan and Mumbai through Gujarat.
  • Bids for entire corridor have been invited and work is expected to be awarded by Mar’23
  • It will reduce travel distance between Sanchore and Ahmedabad by ~10%
  • Travel time will be reduced from ~4 hours to ~2 hours
  • This corridor will pass through the districts of Banas Kantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad providing high speed connectivity to 15+ economic nodes.

 

4.               Surat – Nashik – Ahmednagar – Solapur

  • This is part of Surat – Chennai Expressway
  • It passes through 6 states. Gujrat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
  • Surat-Chennai project is a 6-Lane Access-Controlled Expressway with total length of 1270 Kms and project cost of Rs 47,000 crores
  • Surat to Solapur is a 6-lane fully access-controlled corridor with a total length of 719 km being developed at a total capital cost of Rs. ~24,000 Cr.
  • Out of 719 km, 68 km passes through Navsari and Valsad districts in Gujarat which is yet to be appraised and DPR is being prepared.
  • It will reduce the travel distance from Surat to Solapur by 200km from 670km to 465km and travel time from 11 hours to 5 hours while connecting important economic centers like Surat, Navsari, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Solapur across Gujarat and Maharashtra.
  • Further, it provides high-speed to connectivity to 8 districts, 20+ economic nodes, 3 social nodes and 3 MMLPs boosting economic activities in the region
