Mobile seawater treatment vehicles remain underutilized: CAG Report
March 30, 2023
Gandhinagar: The CAG report tabled in the state assembly on Wednesday revealed that the mobile seawater treatment vehicles (MSWTVs) procured by the Gujarat Ecology Commission at a cost of ₹12.56 crore remained underutilized.
According to the report on the conservation and management of coastal ecosystems, the contract for desalination vehicles was awarded by GEC in 2019 and the MSWTVs were delivered by the agency between January and March 2020, with the cost including one year of operation and maintenance. However, during this period, only 5kl to 7kl was converted against the capacity of 20kl to 80kl.
Furthermore, it was discovered during the October 2021 inspection that the MSWTVs were lying idle as the one-year period was over. The CAG report also stated that, following the failure of this project, the state government plans to hand over these MSWTVs to corporate houses as part of their CSR activities. DeshGujarat
