Khokhra: The Ahmedabad sessions court has sentenced the perpetrator of an acid attack on a pregnant woman to 12 years in prison and a fine of Rs 50,000.

On December 20, 2018, the convict, Hira Nadiya, went to the victim’s residence in the National Park society and asked her a question. When the victim who was washing the cloths her home replied that she didn’t know the answer, the culprit became angry and threw flammable liquid from a plastic bottle on her. He then fled the scene.

The victim was severely burned and was admitted to LG Hospital. Khokhra police filed a charge sheet against Hira Nadiya and began an investigation. The police apprehended him, collected evidence, and presented 20 documentary evidence and witnesses in court. Medical evidence regarding the severity of the burns was also presented. Since the victim was pregnant, there was a possibility of harm to her child if the acid landed on her stomach. The victim testified in court with her face covered.

The culprit had previously been convicted in a rape case. The court has sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 in the acid attack case. The compensation amount will be paid to the victim from the penalty. If the penalty is not paid, an additional one year of imprisonment will be imposed. DeshGujarat
