May 30, 2023
Hatkeshwar: The directors of Ajay Engineering Infrastructure Private Limited (AEIPL) were arrested by Khokhra police on Monday after their anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court.
The four directors, namely Rashik Patel, Ramesh Patel, Chirag Patel, and Kalpesh Patel, were later remanded in police custody for two days. They are apprehended in connection with a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy related to the substandard construction quality of the Hatkeshwar flyover. Their arrest came after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) filed a complaint.
AMC filed a complaint after expert committees discovered that the materials used in the construction of the flyover were of poor quality and posed risks to commuters. The committee also identified structural flaws in the flyover. AEIPL, the company owned by the arrested directors, is engaged in constructing flyovers in various cities in Gujarat.
The AMC has also decided to dismantle the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj flyover, constructed by AEIPL in the Hatkeshwar locality at a cost of Rs 44 crore and commissioned in 2017.
In addition to the chairman and directors of AEIPL, the FIR filed by the civic body also named four individuals from the project management consultant, SGS India Private Limited. DeshGujarat
