HSRP must for all the vehicles delivered from July 15
July 06, 2023
Gandhinagar: All vehicles within the state will have to mandatorily display their high-security registration plates (HSRPs) starting from 15th July. In this regard, vehicle dealers have received instructions to install these registration plates on all new vehicles prior to delivering them to customers.
Around 5 lakh vehicles in Gujarat are driving without high-security registration plates (HSRPs), while the state government is awaiting Rs 300 crore in e-challans from traffic violators. Out of these vehicles, one lakh are around 10 years old, and the rest have been purchased within the last five years. Many drivers either don’t install HSRPs or use unclear number plates to evade CCTV cameras and e-challans.
However, starting from July 15, it will be mandatory for all vehicles in Gujarat to display HSRPs. Those found without HSRPs will face fines ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 4,000. Dealers have been instructed to install HSRPs on new vehicles before delivering them to customers.
The state transport department has partnered with five agencies to ensure the timely delivery of HSRP number plates. These agencies guarantee same-day delivery if the order is placed before 2 pm, and next-day delivery if the order is placed after 2 pm.
The new rule applies to various types of vehicles, and dealers who allow vehicles to operate with temporary number plates may face penalties and may level loose dealerships. Previously, the number plate installation process took 20 days, but the new system aims to be more efficient. On average, more than 130,000 vehicles are sold in the state each month. In 2017, the rates for HSRP installation were set by the transport department. DeshGujarat
