Forest deparment and Railways to discuss deaths of Lions hit by trains

Junagadh: The forest department and railways are likely to increase the number of watchtowers, protection chowki, and trackers after the death of 3 lions hit by moving trains recently.

Two male lions died in the night on 21st July near Uchaiya in Rajula belt of Amreli district after colliding with a goods train. In another incident, a 4-months old lion cub died after colliding with a passenger train in Borala in Savarkundla.

Forest department and railways will have a meeting in the upcoming days. They are likely to decide to increase the number of watchtowers, protection chowki, and trackers to prevent further accidents.

Total 36 incidents of movements of lions on railway tracks were reported in the last one year. However, in most cases the lions survived due to the trackers and consciousness by train staff. DeshGujarat
