Morbi bridge tragedy: SC rejects interim bail plea of Oreva’s Jaysukh Patel
December 01, 2023
Morbi: The Supreme Court of India turned down the interim bail application of Oreva Group’s CMD, Jaysukh Patel, on Thursday.
Patel, who is currently in custody regarding the Morbi suspension bridge collapse on October 30, 2022, sought interim bail from the apex court while awaiting a decision on his regular bail application by the Gujarat High Court. He argued that his release was crucial for managing the company’s finances, including paying employee salaries and a Rs 17 crore compensation to victims. However, the Supreme Court rejected Patel’s plea, emphasizing the need for an expedited hearing on his bail petitions at the high court, according to Utkarsh Dave, the victims’ counsel. DeshGujarat
