Mount Carmel School Navrangpura to shift to Khanpur and Mirzapur
December 06, 2023
Ahmedabad: The parents of the students at Mount Carmel School in the Navrangpura area are angered after the school’s decision to relocate the campus to Khanpur and Mirzapur. The parents complain that the school is not providing a timeline for when the school will be shifted back to its original campus.
This uproar began after a meeting was called this morning to determine the future of the Mount Carmel school building located in Navrangpura. The school, erected in 1923, has been declared unsuitable for use by a structural engineer, who, according to school authorities, has cautioned that the concrete structure and its classrooms cannot withstand any stress.
Sister Renuka, the Director of Mount Carmel Navrangpura school, emphasized the school’s commitment to the safety of its students and staff. Starting from the upcoming academic session, Classes 5 to 8 will be relocated to Mount Carmel School, Carmel Cote, Khanpur, and Classes 9 to 12 to St Xavier’s School, Mirzapur.
Concerned about structural safety issues, the school administration had called on parents, teachers, and management members to attend the meeting for discussions.
The school, which previously operated in a single morning shift, now runs in two shifts. Classes 5 to 8 form the morning batch, concluding at noon, while Classes 9 to 12 operate in the afternoon batch from 12:30 to 5:30.
However, some stakeholders, including parents, members of the student alumni association, and a few schoolteachers, express discontent with circulating WhatsApp messages that appeal to parents not to sign any consent forms for shifting students to new locations.
Officials at the District Education Officer (DEO) office confirmed that no request from Mt Carmel School, Navrangpura, regarding building closure or student transfer to a new location has been processed by the DEO in Ahmedabad. DeshGujarat
