One held for placing pipe on tracks; Saurashtra Janata Express saved from derailment

Surat: A major accident on the Surat-Utran railway route was narrowly avoided when it was found that two individuals had placed a pipe on the railway tracks. A significant accident might have occurred with the Saurashtra Janata Express passing through the tracks if the railway police had not noticed the pipe. The police have apprehended one suspect in the case, while another remains at large.

According to the police, the arrested suspect’s full name is Ramjibhai Devshibhai Kordia. The 42-year-old Ramjibhai is originally from Hudli village, located in the Dhari taluka of Amreli district, and currently resides on the footpath near Katargam Kasa Nagar pay-and-use toilet in Surat. Another individual was with him, and both led an itinerant lifestyle, earning their livelihood by selling scraps and plastic. The accused had acquired an iron pipe from Katargam, intending to have it cut at a welding shop. However, when the shopkeeper refused, they attempted to cut it by placing it on the railway track.
