Girl locked in washroom of BAPS run hostel; probe launched

Valsad: The education department and the local police launched an investigation on Thursday after a girl enrolled in Pramukh Swami Vocational Training Centre was locked in a washroom of her hostel. The 18-year-old girl, who fell sick after the incident, alleged that she was locked in the washroom because she failed to attend a prayer meeting on Wednesday evening.

The girl claimed that the washroom was locked from the outside and despite calling for help, no one came to her aid for 30 minutes. Later, when she was brought out, she experienced difficulty breathing and was unable to walk properly.

Following a complaint from the girl’s father, the police commenced an inquiry, during which statements were recorded from the girl, other hostel students, and staff members. Dharampur police stated that after preliminary investigation, the actions by the hostel officials appear to be unintentional, and they also mentioned that the girl and her family do not want to file an FIR.

The District Education Officer (DEO) of Valsad confirmed that an inquiry had been initiated into the incident, with an assistant education officer assigned to investigate further. DeshGujarat
