Ahmedabad: The city police have nabbed a man from Juhapura who, despite having only completed 10th grade, was scamming American citizens with his fluent English.
Sohil Parvez Rashid Parvez Shaikh, aged 27, employed a modus operandi wherein he communicated with Americans over the phone, offering assistance and loan services. Sohil operated a call center from his home between midnight and 5 am, engaging in conversations with approximately 30 individuals daily. By showcasing fake letters for loan approval from banks, Sohil used to receive payments in dollars through gift vouchers as commissions.
During the police raid, Sohil was caught conversing with an American citizen. Upon searching, the police found a laptop and three phones in his possession. During interrogation, Sohil disclosed his acquaintance with Habib Sheikh, who previously ran a call center in Rakhial, Ahmedabad, before relocating to Delhi. Habib provided Sohil with an application containing data of 150 to 200 Americans, facilitating his fraudulent activities.
Although Habib’s call center operations shifted to Delhi-Noida, he continued to supply data to individuals like Sohil in Ahmedabad. An investigative team will be dispatched to Delhi to uncover the individuals involved in this illicit operation and ascertain the source of American citizen data. Funds acquired from American gift vouchers were deposited into Habib’s account in Delhi, and he transferred the proceeds to Sohil through Angadia (courier service). Sohil received a commission of Rs. 6 lakh over four months, all facilitated through Angadia. DeshGujarat
