Jewelers protest against Tanishq showroom in Surat over gold coin offer

Surat: 100s of jewelers staged protest against a newly opened jewelry shop of Tanishq in Sarthana area over Tanishq’s announcement to offer a free gold coin over purchase and labor.
Varachha-Katargam Jewelers Association and Surat Jewelry Wholesale Association has 1800 members. The associations have formed rules for standard practice and rates.
A newly opened Tanishq showroom however announced a scheme to offer a free gold coin on the orders for purchase of gold and making of jewelry. Upset with Tanishq’s scheme, the jewelers’ associations rushed to Tanishq showroom and staged protest. The protesting jewelers claimed that the coin offered by Tanishq is hardly worth Rs. 1500 and the customers are being misled as it is not even 10 gram coin.
Association president Pratap Chodvadiya(Jirawala) said the association has 1800 members and some rules are formed collectively to keep the industry stable. Tanishq is also a member of the association, but it has breached the rules.
Another association leader, Rajeshbhai said that Tanishq offers 200 ml gold coin over 15 gram gold purchase. Even nose pin of a lady would be 500 ml. 100 gram biscuit at Tanishq would cost Rs. 79,000 against the rates decided by the association which is Rs. 74,600. DeshGujarat
