Gandhinagar: Thousands of laborers from Arvind Mills gathered today in the state capital, Gandhinagar, protesting against exploitation by the company. The laborers have been on strike for the last few weeks over complaints of breaches of labor laws by the company, inadequate wages, and exploitation.
A group of representatives of the laborers met with Assistant Labor Commissioner Shruti Modi. The hearing lasted for 45 minutes, after which the representatives were assured that further hearings would take place in the presence of Arvind Mills officials later. The laborers were satisfied with the response from the Labor Office and were hopeful that the strike would conclude soon with an amicable solution with the company.
Kheda-based social activist, advocate, and politician Mahipatsinh Chauhan led the laborers in the meeting today. Chauhan said the laborers are only demanding minimum wages as per the law. They are not demanding anything more. Chauhan also assured the laborers against any unfair actions by the company.
A large number of policemen were deployed in Gandhinagar due to the presence of thousands of laborers. However, the protest remained peaceful. DeshGujarat
