Ahmedabad: The local police have booked a mother-son duo residing in the Satellite area of the city for duping AB Jewellers located at Shivranjini Crossroads of Rs. 13 lakh.
On Tuesday, the manager of a jewellery store, Mayur Barot (36), in Satellite lodged a complaint with the police, stating that Usha and Ketan Soni from Ashoknagar Society visited AB Jewellers on February 13. Usha selected jewellery items amounting to Rs. 13.07 lakh and requested to speak with the showroom director, Manoj Soni. She claimed to be a retired government employee and assured Soni that she would settle the bill within two days, providing three cheques as security.
However, two days later, when contacted by a showroom employee, she cited wedding engagements as the reason for the delay. Subsequently, she ceased responding to their calls, and all the cheques she provided bounced upon depositing. The showroom manager eventually approached Satellite police and lodged a complaint accusing Usha and Ketan of breach of trust, cheating, and criminal conspiracy.
The Satellite police have booked Usha and Ketan Soni under Indian Penal Code sections 406, 420, and 120B. DeshGujarat
