Sticks, Baseball Bats no longer weapons under Arms Act, rules Gujarat HC
June 18, 2024
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court, in a recent directive, has stated that carrying a stick or a baseball bat in a vehicle will no longer lead to prosecution under the Arms Act. Previously, these items were deemed weapons if found by police during routine or night patrols, resulting in cases being filed under the Arms Act.
The High Court’s attention to this issue prompted the police to re-evaluate their classification of weapons. Until now, items such as swords, spears, guns, daggers, knives, sticks, and other harmful objects were all categorized as weapons. Following the High Court’s order, sticks and baseball bats will no longer be considered weapons. DeshGujarat
