Jamnagar: As forecasted by the Indian Meteorological Department, parts of Gujarat have been lashed by heavy rainfall since this morning. Lalpur taluka in Jamnagar witnessed 2.5 inches of rain in just two hours, from 8 am to 10 am.
According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar, 9 talukas received over one inch of rain in 6 hours, from 6 am to 12 noon today. A total of 91 talukas out of 251 in the state have experienced rainfall today.
The highest rainfall by noon occurred in Jamnagar district, followed by Surat and Dwarka. In addition to these three districts, places in Chotaudepur, Vadodara, Bharuch, Narmada, and Panchmahal have also received over an inch of rain.
The Southwest Monsoon 2024 is expected to advance further in Gujarat in the coming days, with heavy rainfall warnings issued for parts of the state by the IMD for the next two days.
In Chhota Udepur district, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms resulted in widespread power outages and fallen trees. Two large trees fell in Gola village of Sankheda, blocking the road to Sankheda and completely closing the route between Bahadarpur and Gola village. Vehicle drivers and pedestrians faced difficulties until the forest department cleared the road by removing the fallen tree.
In Barwala taluka, a young man tragically died due to a lightning strike in Chokdi village. In Moolila Village of Kalavad taluka, Jamnagar, a school bus became stuck after the pool was breached, trapping children. Village residents swiftly rescued them.
Ahmedabad remained shrouded in darkness since early morning, with light rain beginning in areas such as SG Highway, Ranip, Ghatlodia, Gota, and Ghuma. There is a possibility of heavy rain throughout the day as the weather has changed dramatically since morning. DeshGujarat
