Ahmedabad: A female entrepreneur residing in the Navrangpura area of the city has lodged a complaint with Naranpura police alleging that jewelry valued at Rs 34 lakh was stolen from her bank locker.

Bhavna Mehta, aged 67, stated in the FIR that her parents-in-law had rented a locker at the Indian Bank’s Ankur Crossroads branch, authorizing her to operate it in the event of their demise. One key to the locker is in Bhavna’s possession, while the other remains with the bank officials. The locker requires both keys to be used simultaneously for opening.

Mehta explained that she visited the bank on May 15 to retrieve jewelry for her son Vishwesh’s upcoming wedding in July. A bank official accompanied her to the locker room, where she found the locker was already open. Suspecting foul play, she alerted another bank official, and together they discovered that jewelry worth Rs 31 lakh and cash amounting to Rs 3 lakh were missing from the locker. Before leaving for Mumbai for the wedding preparations, she submitted an application requesting the bank officials to investigate the matter. Upon her return, she inquired about the missing valuables but was informed by the bank officials that the investigation was ongoing.

Subsequently, Mehta approached Naranpura police and filed a theft complaint.
