State Waqf Board forms inquiry committee for Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Waqf Board has established an inquiry committee tasked with presenting a draft scheme for Ahmedabad’s Sunni Muslim Waqf Committee within two months.

The waqf committee, a trust registered with the waqf board, manages 34 mosques, five graveyards, six shrines, three rozas, various heritage buildings under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India, and over 1,200 properties in the city.

The board has appointed a six-member panel, including MLA Imran Khedawala, retired sessions judge Tanvir Shaikh, senior advocate Suhel Tirmizi, and three other waqf board members. This committee has been directed to investigate complaints of irregularities and mismanagement, citing a 2019 waqf tribunal order. The board has requested a report within two months.

Additionally, the board has suspended all proposed change reports by the waqf committee and instructed the inquiry committee to inspect all sites to verify complaints. DeshGujarat
