How mobile number portability will change with new regulations from July 1
June 28, 2024
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024. These new regulations, aimed at curbing fraudulent SIM swaps and replacements, will come into effect on July 1, 2024.
The amendment introduces an additional criterion for rejecting requests for the allocation of a Unique Porting Code (UPC). Specifically, a UPC will not be allocated if the request is made within seven days of a SIM swap or replacement. This measure is intended to prevent unscrupulous elements from exploiting the porting process.
