Markets in Girgadhada observe bandh against anti-encroachment drive

Girgadhada: The local administration in Girgadhada conducted demolitions of several illegal encroachments on Thursday. In response to the demolition action, the Chamber of Commerce called for a bandh as some shops were allegedly demolished without prior notice.
In solidarity with the bandh, all traders closed their markets and shops.
Following a district collector’s meeting three days ago, a 24-hour notice was issued to clear encroachments, which locals complied with by voluntarily dismantling illegal structures.
The demolition primarily targeted the highway connecting Una and Girgadhada. However, demolitions also affected 30 shops along the road connecting Jamwala and Girgadhada, as well as shops near Taluka Seva Sadan, prompting traders to gather at the mamlatdar’s office to submit a memorandum.
