Nadiad school becomes Gujarat’s first solar-powered AC school

Kheda: Chaklasi Primary School in Nadiad town has become Gujarat’s first solar-run, air-conditioned government school.
The Branch Government School of Chaklasi received an air conditioner as a donation, but paying the power bill due to the electricity company’s rates became difficult for the school. Consequently, the government provided a 25 KW solar rooftop system to the school. With this system, the school became the state’s first government school to run on solar power.
Prateek Patel, headteacher at the school, said, “The news reports that our school is the state’s first solar-powered government primary school are true. We received a 25 KW solar system from the government, and after that, we were able to air-condition the school using solar power. We have achieved our vision of making our air-conditioned school comparable to private schools.”

“Earlier, we were also working to improve the school. We had installed smart TVs in classrooms through donations, and later, the government also provided smart TVs. We received 5 LED TVs of 65 inches from the government, and other classes have been fitted with TVs received through donations. When the idea of air-conditioning the school came up, the challenge was not the installation of AC units but the rising electricity bills. While exploring options, the government provided us with the 25 KW solar system, enabling the school to operate 11 air conditioners received as donations,” he added.
“The school is included in the PM SHRI scheme of the Union Government, which will provide additional facilities to further enhance the current amenities,” Patel further added. DeshGujarat
