Gujarat ACB nabs CGST inspector in bribe case

Vapi: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has nabbed a Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) department inspector in a bribery case in Vapi. The accused, Yashwant Rajendra Gehlot (25), a CGST Inspector (Class-2, Group-B), was posted at Vapi-1, Division-9, Range-5 and 6, at the CGST and Central Excise office in GST Bhawan, Vapi. Gehlot hails from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
According to the ACB, a complainant in this case runs a construction firm in partnership. He had paid Central and State GST for the year 2020-21 but received a notice regarding the payment of CGST on the Central Excise portal. Following this, he visited the CGST office, where the accused CGST Inspector demanded a bribe of ₹40,000 to clear the notice.
As the complainant was unwilling to pay the bribe, he contacted the ACB. A trap was subsequently arranged, and the accused CGST Inspector was nabbed after receiving the bribe sum of ₹40,000 at the Central GST and Central Excise office in Vapi today. DeshGujarat
