Gujarat awards 56 athletes with ₹1.88 crore in cash prizes

Gandhinagar: The Sports Authority of Gujarat on Wednesday honoured 56 athletes who excelled in national and international competitions at a felicitation ceremony in Gandhinagar. The athletes were awarded a total cash prize of ₹1.88 crore and 50 thousand at the event, which was presided over by Minister of State for Home, Youth & Sports (I/C) Harsh Sanghavi.
Aryan Nehra, who won a gold medal and three silver medals in international swimming events, received the highest prize of ₹1 crore. The event also recognised 37 school-level athletes, who collectively received ₹8 lakh 5 thousand, and 16 athletes participating in association-level competitions, who were awarded ₹19 lakh 45 thousand.
Sanghavi praised the athletes and reiterated the state government’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and nurturing talent. He highlighted that over 1.20 lakh students from 230 schools in Gujarat are currently receiving professional sports training from approximately 500 trainers. DeshGujarat
