Rampant religious conversion activities in Navsari district; Hindu organizations present memorandum
December 03, 2024
Navsari: Members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindu organizations submitted a memorandum to the district collector on Monday, demanding action against alleged religious conversion activities in the district.
The move follows a recent incident where a video of a private school teacher and his wife making controversial remarks against Hindu deities went viral, prompting legal action. The organizations expressed concerns that Navsari could experience a rise in religious conversions similar to Tapi district, which they claim has witnessed significant religious conversion activities. A VHP member alleged that local MLAs in Tapi district facilitated these activities.
A large gathering of Hindu organization members at the collector’s office emphasized their fears of similar activities spreading to Navsari. They pointed to a recent event in Bardoli’s Babla village, where the accused couple reportedly made controversial remarks at a Christian gathering. A police complaint was filed, leading to their arrest.
The organizations highlighted that conversions, once limited to areas like Dang, Vansda, and Khergam, are now spreading to urban regions. They urged government intervention, alleging that 80% of Hindus in Tapi had been converted to Christianity under the influence of BJP legislators.
Ashwin Barot, a VHP member, said religious conversions in Navsari are escalating, citing an incident in Gandewa village where approximately 1,000 individuals were reportedly converted. The memorandum stressed preventing Navsari from facing a situation similar to Tapi and warned that VHP would take independent action if necessary steps are not taken. DeshGujarat
