December 03, 2024
Gujarat: Gujarat police’s sniffer dogs have once again demonstrated their skill. Over the past six months, the sniffer dog team has played a key role in solving 8 crimes. The team has solved two NDPS cases, as well as one murder, one rape, a housebreaking, and two theft cases. The performance of the sniffer dogs, their trainers, and all the dog handlers has been praised by the state’s police chief, Vikas Sahay, who congratulated the entire team.
In the last six months, Gujarat Police’s “narcotics dogs” have detected large quantities of ganja in two NDPS cases. On October 21, 2024, the trained narcotics dog ‘Gulab’ found a stash of ganja hidden in a steel box between Athana and Rasgulla on the Gandhidham Express train. Similarly, on October 14, 2024, the dog ‘Capto’ helped find 12 kg of ganja hidden in a bathroom during a search of a suspect’s house in the Dhoraji area of Rajkot district.
Meanwhile, “tracker dogs” have assisted in reaching the culprits in six serious crimes such as theft, housebreaking, rape, and murder. On October 14, 2024, the dog ‘Bina’ tracked the location of three suspects on National Highway after following the smell of blood and the scene of a murder in Bhavnagar. On the same day, the dog ‘Penny’ detected a theft worth ₹1.07 crore in the Ahmedabad rural area, using the scent of a school bag and a water bottle.
In a rape case from Surat rural on October 9, 2024, the dog ‘Power’ helped the police trace the bike used in the crime by following the scent of slippers. On September 10, 2024, the police caught a suspect who caused ₹1.10 lakh in damages to a windmill in Porbandar with the help of the dog ‘Rambo.’ Similarly, on August 6, 2024, the dog ‘Welter’ tracked the scent of stolen articles to help detect a housebreaking theft in Patan. On May 17, 2024, the dog ‘Gigli’ traced the scent of a stolen item, guiding the police to the suspect’s home in Vadodara rural and helping solve the theft.
Thus, with the help of Gujarat Police’s trained sniffer dogs, 8 crimes have been successfully solved in the last six months. DeshGujarat
