En route to Surat, Nigerian woman held with cocaine worth ₹1.49 crore

Navsari: The State Monitoring Cell (SMC) of Gujarat Police arrested a Nigerian woman drug peddler and seized imported cocaine worth ₹1.49 crore from her in Navsari.

The arrested woman, identified as Margret Ene Mgbudom (37), a resident of Meera Road, Mumbai, was booked under the NDPS Act. She was later presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Navsari and has been remanded in SMC custody for seven days until February 25.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted her vehicle during a highway surveillance drive while she was traveling from Maharashtra. During the search of the car, officers recovered 149.51 grams of cocaine. Her passport, seized during the arrest, revealed that she had entered India via Delhi International Airport on August 7 last year and had visited the country multiple times before.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that the drugs belonged to a Nigerian man named Elder. She also disclosed that Emmanuel, a Mumbai-based Nigerian, had supplied the contraband, which she was supposed to deliver in Surat.

Officials suspect the involvement of an international drug cartel operating from Nigeria. The accused also admitted to having traveled to Surat and Navsari 10-12 times over the past 1.5 years. DeshGujarat
