Passenger arriving from Jeddah held at Ahmedabad airport for smuggling gold

Ahmedabad: Another gold smuggling attempt was foiled at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the city when a passenger arriving from Jeddah was caught with around half a kilogram of gold.
According to Customs officials, a passenger from Barmer in Rajasthan arrived on an IndiGo Airlines flight from Jeddah on Friday morning. Officers grew suspicious when they noticed him repeatedly adjusting something around his neck. Upon thorough checking, they found two rhodium-coated gold chains on him. Further investigation revealed a hidden packet in his kurta pocket containing five more gold chains.
A total of 488 grams of gold, valued at ₹42.91 lakh, was seized from the traveler, and further legal proceedings are underway.
