Speeding car kills elderly man in Rajkot, driver held; CCTV video goes viral

Rajkot: A horrific accident took place in the city on Sunday night, when a speeding car hit three motorists on the road. Now, CCTV footage from before the incident has surfaced, showing the accused, Ritwij Patoliya, driving his Kia car at high speed. The police have arrested Patoliya and initiated legal action.
In the accident, 69-year-old Prafulbhai Unadkat, a milk dairy owner, who was on his way to refuel his Activa, suffered serious injuries and died on the spot. Meanwhile, a 12-year-old girl, who was riding on another bike with her uncle, Ayush Dobriya, was injured and rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a hemorrhage.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at a speed of 100 to 120 km/h. There were also reports suggesting that the driver was intoxicated. Following the incident, Malviyanagar police detained the accused driver, Ritwij Rameshbhai Patoliya, and his companion, Dhruv Dharmeshbhai Kotak, for interrogation. The car involved in the accident, a Kia (registration number GJ01 KX 5080), has been seized.
Addressing a press conference regarding the accident, Jagdish Bangarwa, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone 2 in Rajkot, said,“On March 16, between 10 to 11 pm, the accused, Ritwij Rameshbhai Patoliya, was driving his Kia car at high speed when he rammed into a 69-year-old man riding a scooter. Due to the accident, the elderly man passed away on the spot. A case has been registered under BNS 106(1), 282, 125, and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused has been arrested by Malviyanagar Police. His blood samples have been collected to determine whether he had consumed any intoxicating substances. Prima facie, it does not appear that he was intoxicated, but the final confirmation will be made after forensic analysis (FSL report).”
“Along with the accused, his family members were also in the car. The accused is 23 years old. CCTV footage shows overspeeding, but further confirmation will be done after forensic scene analysis. If the FSL report confirms intoxication, BNS Section 105 will also be added to the case,” He further added. DeshGujarat
