AMC to install QR codes on around 25 lakh properties in city
April 05, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to install QR codes at the main entrances of all properties across the city to improve service delivery and streamline the implementation of its schemes. These QR codes will provide exclusive access to property-specific details for AMC departments and property owners, while public access will remain restricted.
As part of this project, QR codes will be placed on approximately 25 lakh commercial and residential properties. AMC expects the initiative to increase its tax revenue by 25% to 30%. Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani stated that GIS-based property mapping will support the implementation, with tenders to be floated soon.
In the first phase, all properties in the city will be mapped using drones and GIS technology. Based on tax data, each property will be assigned a unique QR code to be displayed at its entrance. These QR codes will also allow residents to register complaints related to AMC services. Commercial properties and lorries will also be tagged—commercial codes will contain business and food license information, while lorry codes will include owner details, vehicle origin, and business information.
Currently, every house in Varanasi and Goa has QR codes under a similar scheme. Garbage collection vehicles in these cities scan the QR codes during collection, and citizens use them to lodge municipal-related complaints. Inspired by this model, AMC is set to launch a similar initiative in Ahmedabad. DeshGujarat
