Surat: Cybercrime police in Gujarat have busted a gang of seven individuals, for their involvement in a sophisticated digital arrest scam that defrauded a Bhestan Surat based victim of ₹20.50 lakhs. The accused were apprehended by the Jamnagar police based on information provided by the Cyber Cell.
The suspects allegedly orchestrated the scam, impersonating Mumbai Cyber Crime officials and falsely claiming to have digitally arrested a victim Rampyare Pandey who is a teacher living in Bhestan. The accused then extorted money from them under the guise of resolving the fabricated charges.
According to the police, the gang targeted at least seven individuals, coercing them into transferring funds online.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Noormamad Saju Rachhoya (23, resident of Prabha Majid Darwaja, Jamnagar City)
- Sultan Ibrahim Umatiya (26, resident of Mecca Masjid’s opposite lane, Jamnagar City)
- Irshad Hanif Luhar (23, resident of Sonarli Vasahat Gori Kalavad Naka, Jamnagar)
- Manjursinh Avatarsinh Jadeja (23, resident of Limbda Chowk Society, Jamnagar City)
- Rajdeepsinh Natvarsinh Chudasma (35, resident of Gokuldham Society, Jamnagar)
- Satyapalsinh Parakramsinh Jadeja (21, resident of Junagadh Wadi, Jamnagar City)
- Yashpalsinh Bhartsinh Zala (24, resident of Ramdev Colony, Jamnagar City)
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused used a specific modus operandi to deceive the victims. They would allegedly contact the persons, falsely identifying as a cybercrime official, and claim that they were under digital arrest for various offenses. The accused would then demand money to clear their names and avoid further legal action. DeshGujarat
