AMC Plans to Revise Marriage Certificate Format, in Line with Aadhaar Card
April 24, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) standing committee has proposed updating the format of marriage certificates and enabling QR code-based downloads.
The civic body’s decision comes after several complaints from newlyweds facing difficulties in linking their certificates with Aadhaar due to mismatched name formats.
During its recent standing committee meeting, AMC Chairman Devang Dani stated that the corporation will formally send a proposal to the state government for adopting a uniform name format on marriage certificates, aligning it with the structure used by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI): First Name, Middle Name, and Last Name. The current mismatch between this and formats used in official documents like marriage and birth certificates often results in delays and repeated visits to Aadhaar centers, especially for couples trying to update their details after marriage.
