New runway proposed at Vadodara airport; land acquisition request to be sent to Gujarat govt

Vadodara: To enhance capacity at Vadodara Airport, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed building a separate runway. A meeting of the airport advisory committee, chaired by Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi, was held on Tuesday. After discussing the proposal, it was decided that a formal land acquisition request for the parallel taxi runway would be sent to the Gujarat government.

Vadodara airport’s new terminal building was inaugurated in 2016, and according to the local MP, the airport is already equipped to handle up to 350 international passengers daily. However, despite receiving clearance for international operations and customs and immigration facilities in March 2023, no international flights have commenced due to airline concerns over aircraft availability.

Meanwhile, there has also been an increase in domestic passenger capacity from 750 to 1,000 per day, and AAI is set to approach domestic airlines to enhance connectivity.

The meeting saw participation from officials of the Vadodara collectorate, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, the Indian Air Force, CISF, and representatives from airlines such as IndiGo and Air India. DeshGujarat
