310 of 335 complaints resolved in 3 months under GP-SMASH: Gujarat Govt

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Police Chief Vikas Sahay launched GP-SMASH (Gujarat Police – Social Media Monitoring, Awareness and Systematic Handling) on 1st March 2025. Under this initiative, the Gujarat Police has received very good responses from the citizens of the state over the past three months. The 335 representations/issues flagged during this period have been tagged to the heads of the concerned districts, ranges, or units, and instructions have been given to resolve them in a timely manner, the Gujarat government announced today.

The main purpose of this initiative is to listen to the concerns, complaints, and suggestions raised by the citizens on social media with sensitivity and responsibility, escalate them to the appropriate officers, and ensure timely resolution.

How does GP-SMASH work?

GP-SMASH is a social media awareness and monitoring project in which a dedicated team at the state level monitors real-time activities, complaints, or commendable actions related to the police department 24×7 on social media platforms. This team responds within minutes to posts that tag the official X handle of Gujarat Police.

Subsequently, in cases related to law and order, traffic issues, prohibition, cyber fraud, bribery, or misconduct by government officials and employees, the concerned range, district, or unit head is immediately instructed to investigate and take appropriate action.

The respective officer must also instruct their team to act promptly and update the status of the action taken by commenting on the same post within a specified timeframe.

In addition to the state-level team, the performance and outcomes of this initiative are continuously monitored at three levels — by the Range Head, the District Police Head, and the central team.

More than 310 problems resolved successfully in three months

Since its implementation in March 2025, the GP-SMASH team, under the leadership of Law and Order DIG Shri Deepak Meghani, has forwarded 335 citizen representations to the concerned officers. Notably, more than 310 of these were resolved within just a few hours — a significant achievement in public engagement and service delivery.

With the police just a click away, citizens feel reassured

As a result of the GP-SMASH project, citizens now feel safer knowing the Gujarat Police is always just a click away. Questions on social media no longer remain just a ‘trend’ — swift action is being taken against those responsible. This has significantly boosted public trust in the police and enhanced citizens’ sense of security.

GP-SMASH is not just about digital monitoring; it is a bold step toward a more responsible, transparent, and technology-driven police force.

Citizen alertness helps nab drug addict on train before reaching Surat

Recently, an alert citizen, Mr. Sushil Kumar Tiwari, lodged a complaint by posting on X (formerly Twitter) and tagging Gujarat Police. He reported that a drug addict was behaving inappropriately on a moving train. The GP-SMASH team promptly responded, tagging Western Railway Vadodara (GP) and Surat CP, and ordered immediate action. As a result, the drug addict was apprehended in Bharuch before the train reached Surat, and legal action was taken. The complainant praised the swift response of the Gujarat Police and shared positive feedback.
