June 09, 2025
Vadodara: The Jal Shakti Abhiyan was launched in the city today with the inauguration of Vadodara’s first sponge pond, located near Ambalal Park Ground in the Karelibagh area. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) plans to develop more such sponge ponds in other parts of the city.
Vadodara city BJP president Dr. Jayaprakash Soni, VMC officials, and corporators were present at the inauguration ceremony. Local corporator Bandish Shah stated that the sponge pond will aid in rainwater harvesting and help prevent waterlogging in the area.
The system has been designed to channel rainwater into the pond through two chambers, ensuring proper collection and disposal. To ensure safety, the pond will be fenced off to prevent accidents involving children or animals in the vicinity. DeshGujarat
