June 16, 2025
Ahmedabad: The southwest monsoon has made further progress, advancing into parts of Gujarat, including Veraval, Bhavnagar, and Vadodara, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said today in its latest forecast.
The IMD bulletin stated, “The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the entire Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra; some parts of Gujarat state, southwest Madhya Pradesh; some more parts of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha; and some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.”
According to the IMD, “The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 20.0°N/60°E, 20.5°N/65°E, Veraval, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Khargone, Amravati, Durg, Bargarh, Chandbali, Sandhead Island, 23.5°N/89.5°E, Balurghat, and 30°N/85°E.”
Furthermore, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance into more parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, the remaining areas of Vidarbha, and additional regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha within the next 24 hours. In the subsequent two days, further advancement is expected into parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Gujarat and adjoining areas, extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, is expected to lead to the formation of a low-pressure area within the next 24 hours. This system is likely to intensify and move north-northwestward, potentially bringing widespread rainfall activity. The earlier cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan has weakened.
It is noteworthy that last year, the monsoon entered the state on June 11th, marking an early onset. However, this year, the advancement in Gujarat occurred one day after the normal date of arrival, which is June 15th. DeshGujarat
