Western Railway revises porterage charges; how much will you have to pay for coolie service?

Ahmedabad: Western Railway has recently revised its porterage charges payable to Railway Sahayaks to ensure efficient and affordable services for passengers, effective from June 1, 2025. The updated rates apply to various services, including head loads and wheeled barrows.

According to a press release issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, Vineet Abhishek, the porterage charges have been revised across all WR stations. Passengers may either choose to carry their luggage as a head load or via wheeled barrow through a Sahayak, as per their convenience. The term “head load” refers to a quantity of up to 2 bags/suitcases/items of personal luggage, which a Sahayak can reasonably carry manually without a wheeled barrow. If the weight of a unit bag/package is above 20 kg and up to 40 kg, an additional ₹50 per unit needs to be paid to the porter for head load only (not applicable for luggage on wheeled barrow).
