PGVCL approves 9 new sub-divisions in 6 Saurashtra districts
June 30, 2025
Rajkot: The Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) has approved the creation of nine new sub-divisions in six districts of Saurashtra. This move is expected to benefit around 2.5 lakh electricity consumers, enabling quicker restoration of power and improving fault repair response times by up to 20%.
Currently, PGVCL operates 281 sub-divisions under 46 divisions across 12 districts in the Saurashtra-Kutch region, catering to nearly 61 lakh consumers. The new sub-divisions will be set up over the next five to six months, with two each in Rajkot Rural, Surendranagar, and Jamnagar, and one each in Junagadh, Bhavnagar, and Porbandar.
List of New Sub-Divisions
-
Rajkot Rural Circle: Paddhari-2, Patanvav
-
Surendranagar: Vanod, Than Rural
-
Jamnagar: Virpur, Phalla
-
Junagadh: Mota Kotda
-
Bhavnagar: Pindhalpur
-
Porbandar: Maljawana
Once operational, these new sub-divisions will significantly improve the efficiency of power restoration, especially during the monsoon season, when frequent outages cause long hours of disruption. With increased manpower and vehicle allocation, response times to power faults are expected to improve substantially.
According to PGVCL Managing Director Ketan Joshi, each new sub-division office will be staffed by 40 personnel, including 1 Deputy Engineer, 2 Junior Engineers, 1 Deputy Senior Assistant (Accounts), 6 Junior Assistants, and field staff such as Light Inspectors, Linemen, Assistant Linemen, and Helpers. Vehicles will also be allocated—one for the Deputy Engineer and two for field operations—to speed up the response to power faults. DeshGujarat
