July 09, 2025
Gir Somnath: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today laid a trap and arrested two officials of the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) in connection with a bribe of ₹7 lakh in Una, Gir Somnath district.
According to the ACB, the complainant approached the Gir Somnath ACB office after Senior Commercial Officer Maheshbhai B. Birla (Class-3), posted at Una-Khambha Central under the Rajkot branch of CCI, demanded a bribe of ₹7,00,000 for approving bills related to cotton bales. Birla had instructed the complainant to hand over the money to Divyeshbhai Nathabhai Sagathia, a Multi-Tasking Staff member (Class-4) at the same branch.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant lodged a formal complaint with the ACB. Acting swiftly, the ACB set up a trap on July 9. Accused Maheshbhai B. Birla was arrested from his residence, while Divyeshbhai N. Sagathia was caught red-handed at the scene accepting the bribe. The full bribe amount of ₹7 lakh was recovered. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
