ACB Gujarat nabs Irrigation Talati in decoy bribe trap in Surat district

Surat: The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today, in a decoy trap, nabbed an Irrigation Department official for accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 at the Wakaner Section office under Surat Canal Sub-Division-3 in Bardoli taluka.
Surat Rural ACB had received information that officers and employees at the Wakaner Section of the Irrigation Department were allegedly demanding bribes ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 in exchange for reducing canal water tax liabilities on farmers’ land. Acting on this information, a trap was planned with the help of a decoy citizen. During the operation, the accused Padmaben engaged in a conversation with the decoy and demanded a bribe of ₹20,000. She accepted the amount and was caught red-handed in the act.
The operation was led by Police Inspector S.D. Dhobi from the Surat Rural ACB, under the supervision of Assistant Director R.R. Chaudhary of the ACB Surat Unit. Further investigation is underway. DeshGujarat
