Monsoon starts withdrawing from Gujarat; IMD issues heavy rain alert for parts of the state

Banaskantha: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today announced that the southwest monsoon 2025 has begun withdrawing from parts of north Gujarat and Kutch. Conditions are favourable for further retreat of the monsoon from more parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Gujarat over the next 2–3 days. Notably, the actual withdrawal has begun four days earlier than the normal monsoon retreat date for Gujarat, which is September 20.

According to the IMD, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon now passes through 31°N/74°E, Bathinda, Fatehabad, Pilani, Ajmer, Deesa, Bhuj, and 23°N/68°E.

Meanwhile, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over east Vidarbha and the adjoining region, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward with height.

Given these climatic conditions, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in districts such as Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli during the next 24 hours.
