Three booked for beating man to death near Ahmedabad Civil Hospital

Ahmedabad: Shahibaug police have filed a complaint against three individuals for allegedly assaulting a 38-year-old man from Shahibaug at the Rain Basera located opposite the Civil Hospital campus, an incident that led to the victim’s death on Sunday.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred on September 11, when the accused—Vivek Hasmukhbhai Gondaliya, Sahilbhai, and Imtiaz—allegedly beat the victim, Punambhai Kanubhai (38, resident of Patni Lakhiyawala), with sticks and rods on his back, hands, legs, and thighs. The assault reportedly took place after the men suspected him of stealing a mobile phone in public at the Rain Basera opposite the 1,200-bed Civil Hospital.

He was later admitted to Civil Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 14, 2025, at around 10:00 PM. The postmortem revealed that the cause of death was injuries to the body, leading to cardiac and respiratory failure, the FIR further stated.

On Monday, the police booked the three accused under Sections 105, 115(2), and 54 of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and Section 135(1) of the Gujarat Police Act.
