Gujarat ACB book ASI in 2020 bribery case
September 17, 2025
Patan: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat has registered a bribery case against Ishwarbhai Nagjibhai Desai, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (Class-III), who was serving at the CPI (Circle Police Inspector) office in Patan.
According to case details dating back to 2020, the accused had falsely informed the complainant over the phone that his name had surfaced in a POCSO case and that he must appear at the CPI office in Patan to record his statement. When the complainant arrived, Desai allegedly threatened to implicate him in the case and initially demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000. After negotiations, the demand was reduced to ₹50,000.
Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the ACB, which planned a trap on January 23, 2020. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, the trap could not be executed. A subsequent investigation, supported by documentary, scientific, and corroborative evidence, confirmed that the accused had indeed demanded the ₹50,000 bribe.
Based on these findings, a case was filed against Desai on Tuesday under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), at the ACB police station in Patan. The inquiry is being conducted by Inspector N.N. Jadav of the Ahmedabad Rural ACB Police Station. DeshGujarat
