Rainfall lashes parts of Gujarat; Bharuch, Surat top the chart

Gandhinagar: The rain returned to parts of the state this morning, with areas in south and central Gujarat being heavily lashed. Bharuch’s Vagra taluka recorded the highest rainfall at 96 mm (3.78 inches), while Surat City received 46 mm (1.81 inches). Other significant rainfall was observed in Jhagadia (29 mm / 1.14 inches), Vadodara (25 mm / 0.98 inches), and Karjan (23 mm / 0.91 inches) between 6 am and 4 pm today.
According to data from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar, 32 talukas were affected by rain till 4 pm. Among these, talukas such as Ankleshwar, Anklav, Sagbara, Vansada, and Kaprada experienced moderate rainfall between 7 mm and 18 mm, whereas lighter showers of 1–5 mm were reported in areas including Amod, Chikhli, Vapi, Ahmedabad City, and Sankheda.
Meanwhile, the intensity of rainfall in Surat City was disruptive, as nearly 5.5 inches fell in three hours in the Limbayat area under the South East zone, causing heavy waterlogging. Homes in Ashanagar, near Rajunagar Police Chowki, were inundated, while streets in several areas remained waterlogged.
Other areas that received rainfall in the city included Katargam, Pipod, Athwa, Gudum’s Road, Varachha, and Satellite areas. Major service roads in areas like Udhna were severely waterlogged, causing traffic jams and leaving several vehicles stranded. Commuters and pedestrians faced substantial inconvenience due to water accumulation.
Meanwhile, there has been an outflow of over 46,000 cusecs of water from Ukai Dam in Tapi, passing through the city. As a result, the weir-cum-causeway is still overflowing and remains closed for commuters. DeshGujarat
