Stone Pelting on Navratri Venue in Vadodara Over Social Media Post

Vadodara: Tension gripped Vadodara’s Junigarh area late last night after an incident of stone pelting. Police said the violence was triggered by a controversial social media post that went viral, sparking anger among members of the Muslim community. In protest, a large crowd gathered outside the City Police Station.

During the unrest, a mob targeted a Navratri pandal and hurled stones. Police swiftly deployed additional forces and brought the situation under control. Given the seriousness of the incident, Vadodara City Police Additional Commissioner Dr. Leena Patil rushed to the spot.

Dr. Patil assured that peace has been restored in the area and confirmed that action has been initiated against those responsible for hurting religious sentiments. She added that, with the help of religious leaders, police appealed to locals to maintain calm. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on those who circulated the controversial post.

Locals claimed the offensive post, allegedly created using AI, contained derogatory references to the holy sites of Mecca and Medina. Following its circulation, tempers flared, and large crowds gathered at the police station, escalating tensions.

To defuse the situation, police deployed security forces in the area and sought the support of community leaders and elders, who helped pacify the crowd. At present, the situation in Junigarh is under control, though surveillance continues.

Police have appealed to the public not to believe rumours or engage with objectionable content. Officials stressed that maintaining peace and preventing violence remain the top priorities, and strict monitoring is underway against those spreading such posts. DeshGujarat
