Ahmedabad School Bans Leggings, Sparks Parents’ Protest
October 09, 2025
Ahmedabad: Satyamev Jayate International School in Bopal has faced backlash after banning girls from wearing leggings under their skirts, prompting parents to protest on the school campus on Wednesday and demand that the rule be revoked.
The issue caught the attention of the district education officer (rural), who issued a show-cause notice to the school management and instructed the education inspector to visit the school and investigate, considering parents’ concerns.
Parents argued that senior girls often have to sit on the floor and interact with boys during group activities, and wearing leggings ensures both comfort and modesty. Leggings had been part of the uniform until recently, but the school reportedly banned them about 10 days ago.
The school management defended the decision, stating that students must follow the prescribed uniform, which includes a short skirt but does not officially allow leggings. However, they added that the matter will be reviewed after receiving parents’ representations. DeshGujarat
