Ahmedabad: A woman resident doctor from the paediatric ward of Sola Civil Hospital has been moved to non-medical duties for a month after a video allegedly showing her misbehaving with a patient’s relative went viral. The hospital superintendent has ordered an inquiry, which must be completed within 10 days, according to health department officials.

Viral Video Shows Heated Exchange

The incident occurred on Sunday night when the doctor allegedly misbehaved with the relatives of a young girl admitted with fever and a persistent cough. During the altercation, the girl’s uncle began recording a video, prompting the doctor to reportedly try to snatch the phone, accidentally hitting some family members in the process. Later, in the video — which went viral on social media — she was seen refusing to treat the child.

Following the circulation of the video, Minister of State for Health Praful Pansheriya directed a formal probe into the matter. The hospital authorities have since temporarily assigned the doctor to clinical research work while the inquiry examines CCTV footage and statements from both parties involved.

Doctor Undergoing Treatment Herself

Addressing the media over the issue, Sola Civil Superintendent Dr. Deepika Singhal said that both the doctor and the patient’s relative were at fault in the incident. However, she admitted that the doctor’s remark in the viral video — “I will not treat you” — was completely inappropriate.

Dr. Singhal added that the doctor has also been referred for counselling sessions with a psychiatrist, noting that she is herself undergoing medical treatment.

The superintendent stated that the doctor herself is a patient and under treatment, so the administration is handling the situation sensitively. She expressed hope that the corrective steps and counselling will help the doctor change her behaviour and become a better professional in the future. DeshGujarat
