Army jawan from Gujarat stabbed to death on moving train in Rajasthan

Bikaner: A 27-year-old Army jawan from Gujarat was stabbed to death late Sunday night aboard the Jammu Tawi–Sabarmati Express, sending shockwaves among passengers.

According to Bikaner Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials, the deceased, Jigar Kumar Chaudhary, had boarded the train from Firozpur in Punjab and was heading to Sabarmati in Gujarat. The incident occurred around 11 pm, shortly after the train departed from Lunkaransar station in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.

Preliminary investigation suggests that Chaudhary got into an argument with a few train attendants over seating arrangements. The altercation turned violent, and the attendants allegedly attacked him with a knife, inflicting multiple wounds on his chest and abdomen.

Witnesses said the compartment was left splattered with blood. On reaching Bikaner, the injured jawan was rushed to PBM Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered the body and detained two to three attendants for questioning. Forensic teams have collected blood samples and the suspected weapon from the sleeper coach (S-7).

GRP Circle Inspector Anand Gill said, “Statements of passengers are being recorded, and interrogation of the detained attendants is underway. The post-mortem and further legal formalities will be completed once the victim’s family and Army officials arrive in Bikaner.”

A case of murder has been registered, and a detailed investigation is in progress.

Chaudhary, a serving soldier in the Indian Army, was reportedly returning home on leave. His family described him as a responsible and disciplined officer who had been married for just two years. His relatives and Army officials have left for Bikaner, and senior officers have assured all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
