Ahmedabad: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has urged schools across the country to ensure the timely completion of Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for children in the 5–15 age group. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar has written to the Chief Secretaries of all States and Union Territories, requesting them to organize targeted biometric update camps in schools to cover pending cases.

To facilitate this process, UIDAI has joined hands with the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education to integrate Aadhaar’s MBU data with the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) platform. This collaboration is expected to help schools identify and update Aadhaar biometrics for nearly 17 crore children whose updates are still pending.

According to UIDAI, biometric updates at the age of five and again at fifteen are mandatory under Aadhaar regulations to ensure the accuracy and reliability of biometric data. Without these updates, children may face difficulties in availing government welfare schemes or verifying their identity while registering for major entrance exams such as NEET, JEE, and CUET.

The UIDAI CEO emphasized in his letter that conducting MBU camps at the school level would greatly help in completing pending updates. He added that the collaboration between UIDAI and the Department of School Education and Literacy has enabled a technical solution through the UDISE+ application, allowing schools to easily identify students whose biometric updates are due.
