Ahmedabad: The city reported over 250 cases of dengue in October, according to statistics shared by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
As per the AMC health department, 253 cases of dengue, 84 cases of simple malaria, and 28 cases of severe malaria were recorded in the city between October 1 and 31. In addition, 241 cases of diarrhoea, 223 cases of typhoid, and 199 cases of jaundice were reported during the same period.
The civic body also collected 40,969 water samples for chlorine testing, of which five showed no trace of chlorine. Another 5,387 samples were tested for bacteriological contamination, and 10 were found unfit for use.
Cumulatively, from January 1 to October 31, the city recorded 811 cases of simple malaria, 156 cases of severe malaria, 437 cases of dengue, 17 cases of chikungunya, 5,600 cases of diarrhoea, 2,859 cases of jaundice, 3,799 cases of typhoid, and 103 cases of cholera.
However, dengue cases were relatively low compared to the previous period, when over 200 cases were reported in just a fortnight. Health experts noted that vector-borne diseases usually rise after the monsoon. With the recent unseasonal rains having ended, there is a possibility of an increase in infections by mid-November, they said.
